Derek Basinger

Major-General (retired) Derek Basinger, OMM, CD, joined CFN Consultants following a distinguished 37-year career as an engineer and operational leader in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), capped off by over a decade of experience at the senior governance levels of National Defence Headquarters, culminating in his appointment as the Chief of Staff for ADM Material.
Early career highlights include several command appointments, employment in training and educational institutions in Canada and the United States, as well as deployments to the Balkans and Afghanistan. More recent experience provides a detailed understanding of how the CAF plans for future capabilities and the structure required to support those capabilities.
Derek holds a Batchelor of Civil Engineering as well as a Master of Defence Studies, both from the Royal Military College of Canada. Further, he holds a Master of Military Art and Science in Strategic Studies from the United States Army Command and General Staff College and has instructed at the United States Army School of Advanced Military Studies.
At CFN Consultants, Derek is focused on helping to bridge the gap between defence industry capacity and CAF requirements.
