Mike Williamson retired as a Captain(N) from his position as Base Commander CFB Esquimalt in 2008 after more than 30 years in the Canadian Forces.

During his career as a Naval Combat Systems Engineer, he held a variety of positions ashore and afloat. In the early years, Mike was CSE onboard Oberon Class submarines and filled positions within the Submarine Squadron. Postings on the coast were followed with time in Ottawa, working directly with the VCDS in the NDHQ Secretariat, and in Project Management positions in DGMEPM for both surface and sub-surface. During this time, he also augmented his Bachelor of Science degree with an MBA from the University of Ottawa.

Following Staff College, Mike was involved with the Submarine acquisition project, serving as the Detachment Commander in the UK for the initial years of the project, then later as the Project Manager in Ottawa, overseeing acceptance, in-service and mid-life (concurrently), as well as training and contract administration and relations.

After National Security studies, Mike was posted to CFB Esquimalt, where, after three years, he chose early retirement to convert from a Captain in the Navy to a Captain of Industry. For one year, he was on staff at Royal Roads University, initiating a number of programs in Values Based Leadership.

Mike is now involved in a number of engineering and business development activities; principal among them are enterprises focusing on maritime security, technological deployment and growth of small and medium enterprises, particularly in Western Canada.

Mike also serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority and remains active in the community with a young family.
