Murray MacGray retired from the Nova Scotia Public Service in December, 2008, after serving the province in a wide range of progressively senior leadership positions for thirty-two years.
A successful senior public sector executive with 35+ years experience in the public and private sectors, including international experience representing the Government of the Province of Nova Scotia in the UK, continental Europe and at the national level within Canada in strategic industry-government partnership initiatives, Murray MacGray is a strategically focussed and proactive leader. He has extensive senior executive management and leadership skills in directing and managing large-scale and complex multi-partner projects and is seasoned in key areas of corporate management : budget planning and financial management; policy development and implementation; strategic planning; project management; communications, public affairs and issues management; human resources and team building; and, information technology.
Key competencies include, effective public speaking and presentations, up to and including Executive Council; strong inter-personal skills; negotiation and dispute resolution skills; strategic thinking and public policy assessment skills; strong communicator, verbally and in writing;enthusiastic "champion"; and, seasoned professional.
As a long-serving public sector Executive and senior official, Murray has had extensive experience in a broad range of public sector activities including federal/provincial/municipal (F/P/M) initiatives and negotiations; leading organizational change and transition planning; and, demonstrating strong ethical and professional advice and counsel, especially in areas dealing with conflict of interest and due diligence.
Prior to retiring from active public service with the Province of Nova Scotia, Murray served as the Senior Executive Director, Aerospace, Defence and Maritime Security with the Department of Economic Development. In this capacity, he worked extensively with the aerospace and defence sector at the provincial, national and international levels representing the Province of Nova Scotia.
Murray MacGray has a strong community profile and volunteer experience with The Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, Team Valentine with the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, community service organizations and his church.
Murray has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from St. Mary's University in Political Science and Public Administration and a Masters of Public Administration from Dalhousie University.
