Jon Corston retired from the Canadian Army in 1994 after twenty years of service. His career has had an operational, staff and training focus with extensive command experience. After a short orientation in the Navy, he joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in 1974 and was stationed in Kingston, Ontario, Gagetown, New Brunswick and North West Europe. He commanded at several levels including serving as the Commanding Officer of 4 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters and Signal Squadron in Lahr, Germany. He served in several NATO and United Nations units and formations between 1976 and 1991. In 1991 he was posted to National Defence Headquarters as the Team Leader of the Future C3 Concepts Team in Directorate Land Command and Information Systems. As such Jon was responsible for the team which developed the Canadian Army’s future C3 systems engineering and doctrine concepts and participated in NATO and ABCA forum on this subject. He subsequently served as Deputy Program Director for the TCCCS/Iris Project until his retirement from the military.
Jon subsequently joined General Dynamics Canada in Ottawa and over the next eleven years filled a number of positions including Business Development Manager, Project Manager, Deputy Program Director for a Joint Canada/US project and served as Chief Information Officer from 1999 to 2002. Between 2002 and 2005 Jon was the Senior Industrial and Regional Benefits Manager for all of GD Canada’s domestic and International programs. As a result of this activity Jon became well known within Industry Canada, ACOA, FEDNOR, WED and CED-Q. Jon was one of the three lead members of the IRB Proposal writing team which contributed greatly to GD Canada and Sikorsky’s win of the Maritime Helicopter Program.
Jon joined CFN Consultants upon leaving GD Canada and has worked on several IRB Proposals and Plans for our domestic and international clients over the past several years. Jon currently works out of our CFN Consultants (Atlantic) office in Halifax.
Jon received an Electronic Engineering Diploma (Valedictorian), Nova Scotia Technical College, Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1971 and has had advanced management training courses in both the commercial and military sectors including Canadian Forces Command and Staff College in Toronto (1988-1989) and Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College (1983).
