Captain(N) (Retired) Ian Parker joined CFN Consultants in March 2005 after serving 37 years in the Canadian Navy. His final appointment was as Chief of Staff to the Chief of the Maritime Staff/Commander Maritime Command. Captain(N)(Retired) Parker served a significant portion of his career in operations, in ships, or seagoing staffs. He commanded Her Majesties Canadian Ships FRASER and PROVIDER.
His executive level responsibilities have included appointments ranging from strategic development and force planning, including involvement in several Defense reviews, requirements development and implementation and Human Resource Management. As the Director Military Careers (D MIL C), he was responsible for all of the Career management and succession planning in the Canadian Forces below the rank of Col/Capt(N), as the Director Maritime Strategy (DMARSTRAT) and as the Director General Maritime Development and Operations (DGMDO). He initiated and oversaw the development of the Navy's Strategic document Leadmark. Also as Director General Maritime Development and Operations (DGMDO) he was responsible for the initiation, development and the management of the Navy's Capital plan including all projects as well as the development and implementation of strategic maritime operational policy. As Chief of Staff he was responsible to the Chief of the Maritime Staff for the leadership and the management of the National Naval Staff within NDHQ Ottawa as well as the coordination of business Planning and Public Affairs. Mr. Parker was a member of the Naval Board of Canada.
Internationally, Mr. Parker served as the Canadian Principal to the Command, Control, Communications and Computer Board (AUSCANZUKUS), a group established to ensure interoperability among the naval forces of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Ian Parker is a graduate of the Canadian Forces College and the United States Naval War College at Newport Rhode Island.
