Colonel Fredrick Keith LaForge, OMM, CD, CDSC, retired from the Canadian Forces in 1997 having completed a distinguished 35 years of service. He joined the Royal Canadian Regiment of Artillery in 1962 and commanded at every level from Captain through to Lieutenant Colonel. In service of the guns he served in field, medium and air defence units while stationed in New Brunswick, Manitoba, Ontario and North West Europe. He served in NATO, European and United Nations units and formations for over seventeen years.
Colonel LaForge completed two senior staff officer assignments at NDHQ, one with ADM (HR) Mil, the other with ADM (Mat) as section head, Directorate of Defence Industrial Resources gaining valuable experience working with both Canadian and international defence producers. Prior to retirement he was Canadian Defence Attaché accredited to Greece and Italy (1991-94) and The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg (1995-97). He possesses a strong working knowledge of the European Defence community and NATO agencies.
On retirement from the Forces, he formed a consulting company and was employed as Director of Marketing for NATO and the Middle East with a large Dutch consulting firm with defence interests. He returned to Canada in 1999 and was employed as Principle Consultant to the ADM (HR) Mil strategic HR MOSART project for four years.
Colonel LaForge is a graduate of the Canadian Army Staff Course (Kingston, Ontario), the Australian Army Staff College (Queenscliff, Victoria), and the NATO Defence College (Rome); he is a graduate of the University of Manitoba (BA) Political Science.
